Windows 7: How to Display ‘Show Desktop’ Button on Taskbar

Windows 7 removed the support for the ‘Quick Launch‘ menu on the taskbar. As a result, you won’t be able to find that ‘Show Desktop’ button that we all grew accustomed to since Windows 98 SE.

But no worries – you can sort of bring it back. Here how:


1. Right click on the taskbar, select ‘Toolbars‘ menu and then click on ‘New Toolbar‘.

2. In  ’Folder‘ field type: “%UserProfile%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch” (including the quotes).

3.  Click ‘Select folder‘.

You will now find an additional toolbar on your taskbar:

To make it more “retro” style, right-click on the new toolbar and uncheck the following: ‘Show Text’ and ‘Show Title’:

You can also choose ‘View–>Small Icons’ in case you need. Now you are done:
