Before you rush into auto-replying your new Twitter followers, bear this in mind: it’s not cool DMing your new friends with an affiliate link. It will get your unfollowed, period.
Having said that, you would probably want to thank your new addition to Twitter friends for following you. How would you do that automatically? Well, this is what TweetLater is for.

Instant updates. Compare offering RSS updates to your readers vs. Twitter updates. The latter is almost instant. On the other hand, sometimes it takes a few hours for RSS update to propagate to all your readers. Don’t abandon RSS, just add Twitter.
Competition or not, but a few hours ago Google has launched an official Twitter channel. Matt Cutts just confirmed it’s the real thing.
